On a physical level, yoga gives you a strong and flexible body, glowing beautiful skin, improved posture and overall good health. On a subtle & spiritual level, yoga brings harmony in the body, mind, and breathe. Mind becomes calmer and life becomes happier & more fulfilling.
An appropriate yoga routine (asana, pranayama, meditation) complimented with a healthy lifestyle and a well-balanced diet will definitely help you keep fit, both physically and mentally.
Yoga promotes holistic health of body and mind. Stretching movements in yoga increase muscles flexibility. Yoga increases blood circulation, and oxygen supply and therefore reduces fatigue. Other forms of exercises promote only physical development. Contraction movements lead to shortening of muscles and stiffness. To answer simply, you can combine yoga with other exercises depending upon your goals. But structure your yoga practice and other workouts very carefully.
While 7 years is considered to be a good age to start yoga, the minimum age for classes at RASHMIYOGA is 15.
Our mind and body are both affected by the food we eat. According to yoga, three things to be kept in mind regarding food. First, it’s important to eat the appropriate amount of food – not too little or too much. Second, food we eat should be conducive to us, nourish our body and should be easily digestible. Thirdly, only seasonal food in your area should be consumed. Overall, fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, whole grains, lentils, and a small amount of milk and milk products are all part of the yogic diet.
Yoga practice is best done first thing in the morning, when your stomach is empty and you have the least number of distractions. If this is not feasible, you may practice at any other time of the day but please make sure that there is atleast 3-4 hours gap between your meal and practice. While morning practices keep your enthusiasm and energy levels higher during the day, evening practices help you feeling refreshed by reducing stresses and tensions accumulated during the day.
Try to practise for at least one hour every day. If you don’t have an hour every day, do your practises for as long as you can, no matter how little. Maintain a regular and steady practise. 20 minutes of daily practise is preferable to two hours of practise on occasion.
Yoga is definitely for you. Flexibility is a result of yoga, not a prerequisite.

Yes, you can definitely learn yoga by yourself specifically considering so many options available these days (books, you tube videos, online courses etc). However, you may need to spend more time and may also run a greater risk of injury by doing so. The best approach is to learn under the guidance of a trained teacher.
Always breath through the nose unless specific instructions are given to the contrary. Never hold the breath while holding the posture.
The stomach should be empty while doing asanas and to ensure this, a gap of at least 3-4 hours is recommended after eating food. It is advisable not to drink water 30 minutes before, during or after asana practice, to avoid disturbing the pranic flow during practice.
Like any other physical activity, it is suggested that you consult your doctor/ physician before starting the yoga practice. Subject to that, you can start practice under the guidance of a trained yoga professional. Always listen to your body and feel free to use the modified versions of yoga postures that suit your condition. In no circumstance, you should hide your condition from your yoga teacher.
If at any time during the practice, you feel discomfort or strain, gently come out of the posture. You may rest at any time during the practice. It is important in yoga that you listen to your body, and respect its limits on any given day. Please understand that yoga is not a substitute for medical treatment. You should consult a physician prior to beginning of any activity, including yoga.
Yoga affects each person differently depending on a variety of factors such as age, heredity, and physical condition. On an average, you should be able to notice significant difference in your body and mind if you have been consistent in your practice for three months. Yoga is a lifelong pursuit; it is all about the journey, so relax and enjoy it.
